Rural Sculpture Gardens Project
The Mt. Lassen Art Center is planning a project for rural youth to create life or larger size paper mache' scupture in rural settings. Sculpture designed by kids might include Big Foot, Bears, Dinosaurs, human figures would be made with help from local artists. Chicken wire frames mounted on free standing wooden armbatures would be built so that paper mache' may be may be shaped.
These sculptures would be painted with acrylic paint and covered with polyurethane coats. Cost would be free to rural youth in such places as Montgomery Creek, Big Bend, Shingletown, Willow Creek, Weaverville, Scotts Valley etc.

Life Sized Sculpture

Large Sculpturing Make a Dino, a 7' frog, Big Foot, your hero..... Large Sculpturing is a free public event for kids ages 10 to 18 years at the Mt. Lassen Art Center in Viola. Parents are encouraged to participate. We meet at 36373 State Highway 44 on Wednesdays from 1 to 3:30 PM. Kids will design or choose a design for a paper mache sculpture up to seven feet tall. Artists will assist in the construction of sculpture supporting frames, attaching chicken wire supporting structures, the application of paper mache', painting and finishing the sculptures. Frame materials, paints, brushes, paper and other materials are provided free. Parents are encouraged to help out the kids. Free instruction is provided by Luke, a credentialed teacher, and visiting artists. A Paint from the Heart art show displaying displaying the sculptures will be held at the Mt. Lassen Art Center , August 17 from 1 to 3 pm. Kids take sculptures home or find placements in the community.
